The TPNW – What it means for YOU, For US

Thursday, June 9 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

The current social and political realities of the day are stark. Many forms of violence – from the most local to the most global – are causing devastation in our communities and around the world, while the 1% turn a profit on industries of death. As world “leaders” make threats of and investments in nuclear weapons, the June 9 program will introduce and explore different aspects of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, a major new treaty at the United Nations that dozens of countries have ratified. We will explore and discuss the TPNW, and how it relates to our organizing for  peace, justice, and disarmament in the U.S. context.

Speakers:

Vicki Elson (she/her, mom/grandma) is the Creative Director of NuclearBan.US, a partner of ICAN. She holds a master’s degree in anthropology and has had a long career in childbirth education and labor support. Now she lobbies legislators to support the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, and pressures war profiteers to convert to life-sustaining products.

Sofia Rose Wolman currently works as campaign manager with the Nuclear Ban Treaty Collaborative. She has been formed, among other experiences, by participating in the Annual World Conference Against A- and H-Bombs and Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Japan Peace March; growing and studying plant medicine; and working for peace and justice through community self-care and self-determination. Sofia studied Politics at Earlham College and earned the professional degree in ministry from Harvard Divinity School. She was raised and has strong connections in the Boston area.
