MASSACHUSETTS AGAINST ISRAELI ANNEXATION: Organizing to Uphold International Law and End Israeli Impunity

Senator Warren, persist!

THIS IS NO TIME TO REWARD ISRAEL

WITH $38 BILLION IN NEW MILITARY AID!

YOUR ACTION IS URGENTLY NEEDED!

Many in Congress, including Sen. Warren, are demanding repeal of Qualified Immunity for the Police.  Tell Sen. Warren: NOW WE MUST ALSO END “QUALIFIED IMMUNITY” FOR ISRAEL!

Instead, even as Israel is preparing to illegally annex large swaths of the occupied West Bank, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has approved S.3176 “The US-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2020” without debate and with no recorded vote to increase US aid to Israel. The House had already adopted a similar measure, H.R.1837 by voice vote and with no debate.

These measures would write into law an additional $38billion in US aid to Israel over ten years, bringing the cumulative total since 1948 to nearly half a $trillion in current dollars.

Israel has been carrying out “creeping annexation” of the occupied territories for decades, but the new moves it now threatens would open the way to further expulsions, land seizures and exploitation of natural resources. It would officially entrench a permanent Apartheid system in the West Bank.

Letters and resolutions imploring Israel not to annex are inadequate. Experience shows that simply chiding Israel without any material consequences will do nothing to alter its destructive policies.

We Say: NO MORE BLANK-CHECK $BILLIONS FOR ISRAEL!

Senator Warren, we are asking you to:

BLOCK ANY VOTE on S.3176/HR 1837 while Israel threatens the further annexation of West Bank land.  Specifically, we ask that Sen. Warren inform the Senate leadership that she is putting a “hold” on consideration of S.3176.  This is a traditional privilege of US Senators.

  • OPPOSE S. 3176 or any other bill which does not hold Israel accountable for adherence to international law and human rights and which locks-in military aid over the long term. Deny “unanimous consent” if this bill comes up for a vote and demand a thorough debate with a recorded vote.
  • Join in filing legislation to suspend military aid immediately should Israel go ahead with unilateral annexation in any form; initiate or support any other measures to that effect.

Denial of US military aid would not leave Israel defenseless. As a relatively wealthy and technologically advanced country, Israel can pay for its own military needs. Like other countries, Israel could still manufacture or purchase its own weaponry. But a reduction in direct US military assistance would compel Israeli rather than US taxpayers to bear more of the burden for Israel’s illegal actions. Now, more than ever, in the age of a coronavirus pandemic which puts huge strains on our federal spending, we cannot afford a permanent blank check for Israel!
