In Afghanistan, in Kabul’s Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood, home to a large population of ethnic Hazaras, 85 schoolgirls were killed and more than 150 people wounded in a car bombing in front of a school on May 8th, 2021. Terrorist groups including the Taliban and ISIS have repeatedly targeted Hazara communities including educational centers, wedding halls, and even maternity hospitals over the last 5 years. A group of Hazaras and friends from the Greater Boston area will gather on Saturday, May 22nd at 7:00 p.m. on the green island in Watertown Square for a candlelight vigil to pay tribute to the victims of this horrific event. We condemn the recent terrorist attack and demand a stop to the attacks on Hazaras in Afghanistan. We welcome all who would like to join us.
