Attention Watertown residents! You may have recently received a letter from the United States Postal Service that they are conducting a “Discontinuance Feasibility Study” of the Watertown Square Post Office (known officially as Watertown Financial). Here are a few ways your voice can be heard to urge the USPS not to permanently discontinue the Watertown Square branch while new locations are explored downtown:
- Join a letter to the USPS.
You can join in submitting a pre-drafted letter to the USPS by simply filling out the form below with your name and address. The letter outlines some of the key features the Branch had, including Saturday service, and encourages the USPS not to permanently close this branch as new locations are explored. By submitting your name and address, you agree to the City submitting a copy of the letter to the District Manager of the USPS on your behalf. Read the letter and join today.
Residents are welcome to submit a letter themselves, and if you wish for the City to deliver it with the letters above, you can drop it off at the City Clerk’s Office, 149 Main Street, during business hours. Please do so by noon on September 15, 2026.
- Complete the Questionnaire sent by the USPS
Residents who received a “Postal Service Customer Questionnaire” are strongly encouraged to complete the questionnaire and return it in the prepaid, pre-addressed letter to MA-RI Direct office at 25 Dorchester Ave, Room 4009, Boston, MA 02205. Your input will be considered in the feasibility study, where your voice can have a meaningful impact.
- Join USPS’s Community Meeting on September 1
The USPS is hosting a virtual community meeting on September 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM. We are encouraging Watertown residents to register for the meeting and participate in this process to make their voice heard. You can join by phone or computer. Register online.
Stay tuned for future announcements and updates.
