Ukraine and the Growing Danger of Nuclear Weapons

At Watertown Citizens’ Monthly Meeting on Wednesday, July 20 the Peace and Common Security working group presented, “Ukraine and the Growing Danger of Nuclear Weapons“.  The Program will feature Dr. Ira Helfand, Past President of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War and a member of the Steering Committee of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons.

The war in Ukraine has raised the possibility of the use of battlefield nuclear weapons and the unthinkable exchange of nuclear weapons between the U.S. and Russia.  Dr. Helfand discussed the devastation and effects of a nuclear exchange.

Also joining us is Susan Mirsky, a member of Newton Dialogues for Peace and War and the Chair of the Nuclear Disarmament working group of Massachusetts Peace Action.  Ms. Mirsky spoke about how we, as active citizens, can work of nuclear disarmament and about the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
