A Perfect Way to Honor Your Mom
For the seventh consecutive year Watertown residents will once again participate in the annual Mothers’ Day Walk for Peace fundraising event, with all proceeds to benefit families and communities affected by gun violence.
In the past, Walkers for Peace have trekked from Dorchester to Boston City Hall to declare their support for ending gun violence. This year Watertown residents can make online donations, participate in a symbolic in-person Walk for Peace in Watertown, and join in a Mother’s Day live broadcast.
This is the 25th anniversary of the Mother’s Day Walk for Peace, and the Watertown Walks for Peace (WW4P) team has set a fundraising goal of $3000 – almost 50% higher than the $2020 goal last year. Online donations can be made at https://lbdpeace.z2systems.com/ww4p2021.
There are three different ways to participate in the 2021 Watertown Walks for Peace:
- Donate to Watertown Walks for Peace fundraising webpage. This is the most important way to support the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute and its work. Our goal this year is $3000 – almost 50% higher than the $2020 goal last year (which we exceeded). Please make your online donation at https://lbdpeace.z2systems.com/ww4p2021. DONATIONS BY APRIL 30 WILL BE MATCHED
- Join a short “Symbolic Walk for Peace” here in Watertown. The 2021 WW4P Team will be leading a short, in-person Walk for Peace from Church of the Good Shepherd to the Martin Luther King, Jr. public mural behind the Watertown Boys and Girls Club (meet at the church at 8:30 am). Participants will be expected to wear masks and practice social distancing.
- Mother’s Day Live Broadcast. Tune into the annual celebration on May 9, 2021 at 9:00 am on mothersdaywalk4peace.org live for the 25th Annual Mother’s Day Walk For Peace.
The Mother’s Day Walk for Peace is sponsored by the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute in Dorchester, a center for healing and teaching, supporting those who have lost loved ones to homicide, and working with young people to teach the ways of peace. It was founded 23 years ago by Chaplain Clementina Chery, the mother of Louis D. Brown, who was killed by random gunfire in 1993. The Institute has earned a reputation as an innovative leader for peace. For more information visit: http://www.ldbpeaceinstitute.org/
Today the need for this work is greater than ever. Our goal is to raise $3000 from Watertown participants, and WE NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION!
