For our monthly meeting in December, Watertown Citizens will consider the question of whether Watertown should become a Bee City.
Town after town in Massachusetts is taking action to protect pollinators. Watertown has long had the practice of not using pesticides on public property. For five years, Friends of Bees have been educating about pollinators, holding events, and helping people plant native flowers for our native pollinators. We would like to ask if you think Watertown is ready to become a Bee City.
Bee City USA is a national network of pollinator-friendly cities.

They ask that cities pass a resolution to create a Pollinator Habitat Plan to increase habitat for pollinators, plant native, and educate with events and social media. The resolution should also commit to creating a Integrated Pest Management Plan to limit the use of pesticides. We need a sponsoring town department to keep things moving in the long term. They also ask for annual dues and annual reports on the town’s progress.
Come hear about what Bee City USA is all about. Bring sweet snacks, and thank the bees for making them possible!
