Veterans for Peace Memorial Day for Peace this Monday May 27 @ 2:00 pm - 330 pm EDT






MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM VETERANS FOR PEACE SMEDLEY D. BUTLER BRIGADE

Monday, May 27, 2024, 2:00 pm

Gather at Park St. Station at 1:30 and hand out flyers and flags.

Step off at 2:00 and parade up to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on the Common behind the bagpiper while handing out flyers.

Several Smedleys will do Memorial Day readings.

Featured speakers: Will Hopkins, the new national Executive Director of Veterans for Peace; UMass Boston Professor Paul Atwood.

Place flowers on the monument in remembrance of all victims of war.

Realign around the field of flags and ring the bell for departed Smedleys, presente!. Taps will then be played on the bugle.

Parade back to Park St. behind the bagpiper and disband.

Will Hopkins, VFP Executive Director


Will Hopkins is a lifelong New Hampshire resident who served for six years in the New Hampshire Army National Guard as an Infantryman, which included a year-long tour in Iraq and a short period in Louisiana responding to Hurricane Katrina. Will is a lifetime member and former board member of Veterans for Peace, and served as Executive Director of New Hampshire Peace Action from 2009 to 2023. He studied Anthropology as an undergrad, and obtained a Masters in Business Administration in 2008.  He is a nonviolent direct action and peacekeeping trainer and lives in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region with his wife and two daughters. Will believes in the power of nonviolence to transform hearts, minds, and systems, when the dignity of those who would be othered is held with respect and compassion. He stepped in as National Director of Veterans For Peace in May of 2024.
