Chemical Use Reduction and Education (CURE) Task Force
Scientific evidence increasingly indicates that even small quantities of pesticides and other toxic chemicals -- those found in vinyl household products, dry-cleaning materials, Scotchguard, Teflon, flame-retardants, body-care products, flea collars, bug bombs, and others -- cause epidemics of chronic illness and disorders, from cancer to birth defects to neurological problems. These toxins also degrade our soil, water, and other natural resources.
CURE is committed to educating the public about these dangers and the safe alternative solutions which exist. CURE is also committed to educating the public about the role of compost in enriching the soil and in growng pest- and disease-resistant plants and produce.
Our portable awareness display (pictured above), funded by New England Grassroots Environmental Fund, offers many and varied educational handouts. Find out about scheduling this wonderful display FREE for your school, church, company, or group.
Current CURE project:- Supporting the Safer Alternative Bill in the Massachusetts legislature: House Docket 2150, Senate Docket 1188. This bill targets 10 of the worst toxic chemicals in wide use in Massachusetts that could easily be replaced with safer alternatives. The bill provides technical and financial assistance by the state to support implementation. Please call Henrietta Light at 617-926-2545, or email Laura Cherry for updates and to find out more.
